Let’s think about our prison systems

I read the article: U.S. Prisons: Myth Vs. Mayhem. The article is about how America’s prisons systems are spending tremendous amounts of money hoping to make the inmates a better person so they can hope to return to society, but in reality the prison systems are not doing anything. “The notion that people who go to prison return to society as nicer citizens has long since become a bitter laugh” Stated by the author Frank Trippett. I think that prisons are not the best solution for gang members because although it may deter the violent person from society, it won’t deter them from being violent in prisons. The best way to punish a very violent gang member is to isolate them from everyone. One thing that confused me about the article is, if America knows that our prison systems are not really working,  then why do they keep putting money in a dead end system?
